The holidays have come and gone, but “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” is still hitting milestones. Although the film didn’t make enough in the box office to keep its spot on the top 10 this week, the movie has raked in more than $500 million worldwide.
That means “The Grinch” is now the highest-grossing holiday movie ever, beating the hit “Home Alone’s” $476 million. It’s also Illumination’s sixth film to cross the half-billion mark, along with “Despicable Me 2,” “Despicable Me 3,” “Minions,” “The Secret Life of Pets” and “Sing.”
That’s not all, the film is the third-biggest animated film of 2018 worldwide, behind Disney’s “Incredibles 2,” which made $1-point-two billion and “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” which raked in $527 million. The fact that the studio produced “The Grinch” with $75 million of those earnings is just another reason to celebrate.
