Roman Polanski Threatens To Sue The Academy For Expulsion

A week after being expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Roman Polanski is responding.

The director’s attorney Harland Braun wrote to the Academy that “Mr. Polanski has a right to go to court and require your organization to follow its own procedures, as well as California law.” He went on to demand a fair hearing after the expulsion was rescinded and argued that the director apologized to his victim.

Polanski was arrested in 2009 in Switzerland for the 1977 assault of then-13-year-old Samantha Geimer, in which he allegedly drugged and raped the teenager during a photo shoot at Jack Nicholson‘s home. He famously fled the U.S. after his original conviction and Hollywood continued to welcome his movies.
