The Voice Returns To NBC

“The Voice” returned last night, and season 14 promises to be fun for three reasons – new coach Kelly Clarkson, returning coach Alicia Keys, and the Block button. The Block button gives the each coach the opportunity to block another coach for a contestant they really want.

Here are a few highlights from the first night of the Blind Auditions…

  • Blake Shelton used his one and only block on the first contestant of the night. Britton Buchanan’s rendition of “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne got chair turns from Blake, Alicia, and Adam Levine. Since Blake blocked Adam, he couldn’t be chosen. In a stunning twist of fate, the 17-year-old ended up on Alicia’s team.
  • The tear-jerk moment of the night came from Rayshun LaMarr. The 33-year-old sang “Don’t Stop Believing” in honor of his journey. He talked about losing his voice and regaining it after being diagnosed with lymphoma. He got chair turns from Adam and Alicia. In a surprising twist of fate, he actually went with Adam.
  • The only four-chair turn of the night came for Justin Kilgore. The country singer from Buffalo, Texas sang “Tomorrow” by Chris Young. Alicia blocked Blake to give someone else a chance to get a country singer. Justin ended up choosing Kelly.

Here’s a look at how the teams are shaping up:

  • Team Adam: Britton Buchanan, Rayshun LaMarr, Drew Cole
  • Team Alicia: Kelsea Johnson
  • Team Kelly: Brynn CartelliR. King, Justin Kilgore
  • Team Blake: Kyla JadeKaleb Lee

The Blind Auditions continue tonight on “The Voice.”
