O.J. Simpson is no longer behind bars. The former NFL star was released from Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Institute early yesterday morning after serving nine years of a 33-year prison sentence after being convicted of charges stemming from a botched robbery in Las Vegas.
He was granted parole in July with yesterday set as his earliest possible release date. During that parole hearing, the 70-year-old Simpson argued that he would pose no threat to anyone if released.
As for fanfare surrounding his release, there was none. Simpson walked out of the detention center under cover of darkness. While it’s been reported that his plans are to head to Florida and spend time with his friends and family but the Nevada Department of Corrections would not confirm his destination.
- Additionally, Florida’s Attorney General doesn’t want him back in her state. “Floridians are well aware of Mr. Simpson’s background, his wanton disregard for the lives of others, and of his scofflaw attitude with respect to the heinous acts for which he has been found civilly liable,” Pam Bondi “[Florida] should not become a country club for this convicted criminal.”
- Arrested and charged with the murder of his estranged wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, O.J. was ultimately acquitted of the crime but the infamy never seemed to stop following As for the massive multi-million dollar judgment against Simpson, he’s got a pension of about $25-thousand per month he’ll be living off of that no one can touch.
