An Isabella County judge on Wednesday sentenced a Crystal man to prison for drunken driving causing death.

Judge Mark Duthie ordered James A. Frank, 71, to spend three to 15 years in prison for the mid-March crash that killed Duane Ryckman, 46, of Winn.

Ryckman was thrown from his truck and pronounced dead at the scene of the March 12 accident at Blanchard Road near Crawford Road in Lincoln Township after Frank admitted to having one beer at the Soaring Eagle Casino and was on his way home when he crossed the center line, hitting Ryckman’s pickup truck head-on, according to police and court documents.

Frank was arrested after the crash but was released from jail pending the results of blood tests; he was later named in an arrest warrant, according to police and court records.

Frank failed all roadside sobriety tests and blew on a Breathalyzer test .07, just shy of the .08 minimum for drunken driving in Michigan, according to court documents.

Frank was not injured in the crash.
