Jennifer Hudson brought her shoe-throwing style of coaching to season 13 of “The Voice” last night. She, along with Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton, did their best to persuade singers to join their teams in the first round of Blind Auditions. Here are some of the highlights…
- There were two four-chair turns. Chris Weaver, the worship leader-slash-drag queen, opened the show by slaying the coaches with his take on “Try a Little Tenderness.” Although he spoke of possibly going with Adam in his intro, he ultimately went with J-Hud because he’d actually sung for her before. Both times, she threw her shoes at him.
- The other four-chair turn belonged to Brooke Simpson. The full-blooded Native American’s rendition of “Stone Cold” was absolutely beautiful, and she made Miley’s day by picking her as a coach.
- One of the cuter moments of the night came during Dave Crosby’s audition. His claim to fame has been singing with his daughter, Hannah, in viral YouTube videos. His performance of “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” inspired chair turns from Adam, Blake, and Miley. After the coaches invited Hannah on stage to sing, he ended up choosing Adam because they both have daughters.
- Finally, Lucas Holliday was one of the most unlikely singers of the evening. Even though the cashier from Lansing, Michigan sang the soup out of Maxwell’s “Woman’s Work,” J-Hud was the only one who turned around. She was so impressed with his vocals that she wanted to sing with him. The song he chose was “God is Able.” Let’s just say they brought the house done.
Here’s how the teams looking going into tonight’s round of Blind Auditions…
- Team Adam – Dave Crosby, Brandon Showell
- Team Blake – Mitchell Lee, Esera Tuaolo
- Team Miley – Janice Freeman, Brooke Simpson
- Team Jennifer – Chris Weaver, Shi’Ann Jones, Lucas Holliday
