Officials say the sugar beet harvest in Michigan this fall was lower than in previous years. Michigan Sugar, which gathers beets from Gratiot and Isabella counties, among 18 others says sugar content was about 15.9 percent, down from the usual 18.5 percent. In total, Michigan Sugar yielded more than 30 tons of beets this season.
