The Mt Pleasant City Commission rejected a proposal to reduce the number of signatures needed to bring a citizens referendum on a citywide ballot. The number of signatures would be lowered to 10 percent of the city’s voters. Three residents spoke at a public hearing on the matter before the vote, all were in favor, but ultimately the measure fell 4-3, and needed to pass 5-2 to proceed.
