After a less than stellar debut this weekend, Universal is hoping fans will give “Cats” a second chance. The studio has revealed they’re re-releasing the musical with “improved visual effects.”

As we reported separately, the $100-million star-studded adaptation of the Broadway musical pretty much bombed this weekend – it didn’t even make enough to beat “Jumanji” and “Frozen II,” movies that have been in theaters for more than two weeks. Not only that, but “The Hollywood Reporter” named “Cats” one of their “10 Worst Films of 2019.”

With fans and critics alike bashing the musical, director Tom Hooper has requested the movie’s CGI effects get a makeover before hitting screens again. Hooper admitted that the movie was sort of a rush job – he only finished it hours before its big premiere last week after a 36-hour cram session.
