As counties across Michigan wait to hear if proposals to bring parity between prosecutors and public defenders will be funded by the state, officials in Isabella County have voluntarily implemented a transitional position for 2018 to meet standards before they are a requirement. Currently, the public defender system in the county will be an independently-run operation, rather than a process overseen by judges in the court system.
