A St. Louis man was killed in a traffic crash Wednesday.

According to a news release, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic crash involving a single vehicle that killed Howard Bruce Zimmerman, 57.

The incident took place on West Kent Road near South Magrudder Road in Jasper Township at approximately 3:22 p.m.

“Our investigation indicates that the driver, Zimmerman was driving his black 2012 Suzuki GSX1300R motorcycle and was heading eastbound on West Kent Road,” Sheriff Scott Stephenson said. “The motorcycle struck a deer in the road causing Zimmerman to lose control and crash.” Zimmerman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

He was transported to Mid Michigan Medical Center by EMS. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination,” Stephenson said.

This report will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office for review once it has been completed.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Mid Michigan EMS and Saint Louis Fire Rescue.
