The Mt Pleasant Police department hopes to raise awareness after several local men found themselves the target of a blackmail scheme after sharing intimate moments over video chats with strangers. In all of the cases, the men ranging from ages 19 to 25 began a conversation with a person they believed to be a woman on Skype or Facebook Live. Eventually, the stranger on the other end demanded money, otherwise the videos would be shared publicly, or with friends and family.
