Don Henley
USA Today | ( Danny Clinch)

Don Henley was in town for a show, I attended and here are my thoughts about the show. Well I find it fitting that the former Eagle performed at the Soaring Eagle Casino. It was an interesting experience all around, this was the first show that I have been to where the artist asked the crowd to not take pictures or be on their phones at all. For the most part during show people listened and stayed off of their phones.

All right, let’s get into the actual performance; Don Henley as most folks know was a member of the Eagles as well as a solo artist. So he performed songs from his days with the band as well as his solo hits. The started with an a cappella performance of the Eagles song, Seven Bridges Road. Let me start by saying Don Henley still sounds amazing after all of these years, listening to him sing you’d think it was still the 70’s or 80’s. After that he jumped right into his solo hit Dirty Laundry, his backing band is chocked full of great musicians and backing vocalists.

The three backing vocalists, three young woman were amazing as well, one of them played the fiddle and all three had a duet with Don. They also performed a song with just the three of them, while Don said he was going to play a couple hands of blackjack in the casino. He also performed a few songs from his newest solo album called Cass County. Three of those songs were the duets. Good stuff all around if you ask me.

The performance as a whole was one that I won’t soon forget, he performed all of the songs that I have come to know and love from him as well as the Eagles. His encore was Life in the Fast Lane, Hotel California and he ended with Desperado, which he dedicated to former bandmate and great friend Glenn Frey who passed away earlier this year. I almost teared up during that song, it was a beautiful and moving performance. I can know die happy knowing that I got to hear Hotel California live, the whole show was great. Thanks for the great show Don, come back to Mount Pleasant soon.
