I have accidentally left several things behind on road trips, including an umbrella, a pair of socks and most of the DVD’s from the first season of Arrested Development. What happened to this family blows any of my forgetfulness out of the water.
A family stopped at a rest stop in Southern France. When they got back in the car and took off, neither of the parents or their two other kids noticed that they had left their 3 year old at the rest stop.
“Another family was at the rest stop and noticed the girl was alone for a while,” Clara Thomas, deputy prefect of the town of Die, in the Drome region, said on French TV. “They took care of her and called police to let them know.”
The 3 year old was able to give a basic description of the car and told police “Daddy’s car drove away.”
The family drove for more than 90 miles when they heard a radio message from police asking them to pick up their daughter.
The family reportedly asked their other two children if everything was alright and no one noticed that the toddler was missing.
Local police said they would talk to the prosecutor in Valence, the nearby town, to assess whether further action should be taken.
